Why the Mark O. Hatfield Federal Courthouse?
Federal law enforcement agents in Portland, Oregon came out Sunday morning to provide traffic control for a group of young people from Beaverton, cleaning the site from the night before? No sign of Portland police. No sign of city workers or those that made the mess the previous night.
These federal agents are not going to be handing out Tootsie Rolls or serve as crossing guards. When their job in Rip-City is complete, they will be off to another lawless site in the United States. “Thank you for your service”. The Wall Street Journal states some are members of an elite unit known as Bortac, and “are among the most highly trained federal agents”. They must wonder why the privileged citizens of this beautiful city are so upset. So, do I.
When will they leave? That is easy, as soon as rioters abandon their efforts to take over the Mark O. Hatfield Federal Courthouse in downtown Portland. It is similar to a US embassy in a foreign country. If the local law enforcement cannot do it the federal government will. If you want them to leave, leave the federal courthouse alone. Mayor Wheeler should be able to make that deal.
The vast majority of Portlanders and those in the jurisdiction of Metro, which represents 28 neighboring cities will never see these agents. They are not social. They do not pander. They give off the persona of a disciplined, militaristic cadre of brothers. And there are more coming. Their opponents are rioters. Do not believe the woke media. These agents are made scapegoats by Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler who knows they cannot leave while calling them to leave. As long as the rioters can attack the federal courthouse, they are not going to go back to vandalizing the Justice Center which is directly across the street to the south.
Ask yourself “why the federal courthouse? Why is city hall untouched?
Ted Wheeler profits politically by the conflict over the Mark O. Hatfield Federal Courthouse, playing to the left leaning majority in Portland and Multnomah County. He needn’t bother. His reelection should be in the bag when he runs against his Antifa member opponent. This would be an ideal time to stop fighting with the federal government and gain some goodwill and so he can accomplish his goals for the city during in his second term.
